The trial for the murder of Sgt Matiu Ratana has presented evidence in the form of CCTV footage capturing the moment when he was shot with an old-fashioned revolver. The incident occurred in a holding cell in south London.

Louis De Zoysa, who is 25 years old, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Matiu Ratana. The alleged murder took place in 2020 at Croydon Custody Centre and is said to have been carried out using a gun that

According to the prosecutors, Louis De Zoysa intentionally pulled the trigger four times.

Duncan Penny KC stated that Mr. De Zoysa hurt himself with the fourth shot.

According to the prosecution, Sergeant Ratana, who was also known by the name Matthew and was the on-duty custody sergeant, was murdered while Mr. De Zoysa was restrained with handcuffs in a holding cell.

According to Mr. Penny KC’s testimony to the jury, Mr. De Zoysa had purchased an antique firearm in June of 2020 through an auction. The witness emphasized that it was not illegal to possess such a weapon and that Mr. De Zoysa had manufactured his own bullets since they were no longer being produced commercially

According to the court, the officers who took Mr. De Zoysa into custody and conducted a search did not discover that he had a loaded revolver in his holster.

In the Northampton Crown Court, Mr. Penny KC stated that according to the prosecution, Louis De Zoysa aimed his gun at Sgt Ratana and intentionally fired twice.

He stated that there exists a recording of what occurred, including CCTV footage and other visual evidence.

According to the prosecutor, the video and audio evidence clearly depicts Louis De Zoysa as the person responsible for taking the life of Matthew Ratana.

During the first day of the trial on Tuesday, it was reported in court that the fourth bullet struck Mr. De Zoysa in his neck, leading to brain injury.

According to the jurors, the person undergoing trial will receive help from a mediator and will use a whiteboard due to challenges with communication.

On Wednesday, Mr. Penny KC informed the court that he would be using brief sentences and uncomplicated language. This decision was made to ensure that Louis De Zoysa could comprehend the information being presented.

The prosecution began their presentation by describing the sequence of incidents that preceded the shooting.

According to the statement presented to the jury, Louis de Zoysa was strolling along Norbury’s London Road on September 25th, 2020.

According to the prosecution, the police stopped him on the street, searched him and then handcuffed him. The jurors were presented with footage from the body-worn cameras of the officers.

Upon searching Louis De Zoysa, the police discovered that he had cannabis and seven rounds of ammunition on him. However, they failed to notice that he was also carrying a loaded revolver in a holster.

According to the court, the firearm and its holster were most likely hidden under one of the individual’s armpits.

At the age of 23, Mr. De Zoysa was escorted to Croydon Police Station and placed in a holding cell while still being restrained with handcuffs.

According to the information given to the jurors, Louis De Zoysa had concealed the gun and was capable of aiming it at Sgt Ratana who was on duty.

The individual intentionally fired a shot at Sgt Ratana, at a very close distance, hitting his chest. There was no indication or alert given beforehand.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that other officers at the scene were unable to prevent Mr. De Zoysa from firing the shot that resulted in a fatal injury to Sgt. Ratana’s left lung and heart. The prosecution argues that Mr. De Zoysa intentionally caused harm to Sgt. Ratana.

According to the court, additional gunshots were fired while struggling with the other officers, and one of those shots caused an injury to Mr. De Zoysa.

According to the prosecution, it is claimed that there was a second intentional shot aimed at Sgt Ratana which struck him in the leg.

The cell was struck by the third shot.

The prosecution informed the court that it is likely that Mr. De Zoysa obtained the gun while he was arrested and before he got off the police van.

Mr. De Zoysa’s condition is on the autism spectrum, which has been mentioned in court before. He may experience an autistic meltdown.

According to the defense lawyer Imran Khan KC, Louis De Zoysa has stated that he had no intention or desire to murder Sgt. Ratana or cause him any severe harm.

Louis De Zoysa denies the accusation of murder and claims that he did not commit the crime.
