Pope Francis to Undergo Abdominal Surgery at 86: Vatican Confirms Details and Timeline for Recovery

The 86-year-old Pope Francis is set to undergo surgery for his abdomen at Gemelli hospital in Rome on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Vatican, he will be required to remain in the hospital for a few days to recuperate after having surgery for a hernia.

According to Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni, the hernia is responsible for symptoms that keep coming back, are causing pain, and are getting worse over time.
