The Flash, a new DC Comics movie featuring actor Ezra Miller, has been reviewed by film critics. They have shared their opinions on the superhero movie. Miller has been facing personal issues in the United States.
The possibility of the superhero’s first solo film was uncertain due to Miller’s multiple arrests and need for mental health care, causing anticipation for the film to increase.
The Times and The Guardian newspapers rated it with only two stars. The Guardian gave a negative description of the character, calling them a "gurning, smirking mess".
The Evening Standard praised the film as being among the greatest superhero movies of the 21st Century thus far.
Miller, who prefers to be referred to using they/them pronouns, was able to avoid being sentenced to prison in January by admitting to unlawfully entering a neighbor’s property.
The individuals were placed under probation and instructed to undergo a process of detoxification while also receiving ongoing mental health care.
In the Justice League, Miller portrays Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, who is a forensic investigator working for the police. He has the ability to move at an incredibly fast pace
A fictional character goes back in time in order to prevent his mother’s death, which resulted in his father’s conviction for a crime he didn’t commit. During this journey, the character also takes on the role of a mentor to his younger self, but
Kevin Maher referred to it as a "multiverse misadventure" in his article for The Times.
According to him, the producers tried to handle Miller’s widely known personal and legal issues by adding a line for their Flash character that seems to acknowledge the problem.
According to Maher, when confronted with a traumatized eyewitness, our hero advises them to seek help from a mental health professional. The Justice League is not yet skilled in this area.
After a brief moment of silence, the character turns to the camera and gives a mischievous look before saying, "Trust me!" This line feels inappropriate considering the overall theme of the film, which appears to be focused on exploiting popular cultural references for entertainment purposes.
The movie includes brief appearances from previous superhero actors, such as Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck who played Batman, and Gal Gadot who portrayed Wonder Woman.

According to Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian, the movie showcases stunning and bizarre depictions of different DC superheroes. Additionally, the appearance of an obscure version of Bruce Wayne in the end elicits laughter from the audience.
In his statement, he mentioned that the movie lacks originality and fresh perspectives. Furthermore, he expressed that it cannot be compared to the highly praised animation attempt in the latest Spider-Man movies. However, he acknowledged that his opinion might reignite the debate between DC and Marvel fans.

The film received a three-star rating from Clarisse Loughrey of The Independent. Loughrey characterized the film as being confusing, emotionally touching, and complicated in terms of morality, largely due to the performance of Ezra Miller.
According to the writer, the release or cancellation of Miller’s film wouldn’t benefit anyone. It appears that Warner Bros is more concerned about the success of their product rather than the welfare of their employees.
Despite some criticisms, she commended the writers for their deep dive into the theme of mourning, and esteemed Miller for their outstanding portrayal of two distinct characters that transformed a previously annoying personality into a more complex one.
David Fear, a critic from Rolling Stone, expressed high praise for the movie, considering it to be the best out of the recent collaboration between Warner Bros and DC after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.
The most valuable element of the film is Keaton’s performance. He not only plays his role brilliantly, but he also seamlessly integrates himself into the complex storyline in a way that aligns with the overall vision of The Flash.
According to Charlotte O’Sullivan from The Evening Standard, viewers will appreciate the moments of excellence in the film. Meanwhile, David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter stated that the movie provides pleasurable entertainment, although it may spend more time rehashing old ideas rather than introducing new ones.
According to him, Miller, who was considered problematic, is actually the most valuable aspect of the movie. He brings in elements of humor, emotions and a sense of fragility that is not commonly observed in superhero movies.
Owen Gleiberman from Variety had a mostly unfavorable opinion of The Flash, stating that it lacked the joyful tone of Back to the Future and instead relied too heavily on grandiose blockbuster tropes.
Although he found the beginning of the "enjoyable and stimulating comic book adventure about time-traveling heroes and identity", he ultimately came to the conclusion that "none of it really adds up".
According to him, manipulating the past can create an abundance of options and lead to an excessive use of elements in a production, overwhelming the audience with an abundance of content.
